Here's yet another example of the fine-scaled, mixed-use economy that once defined the urban neighborhood: store on the ground level (most recently Grand View Market - "If you don't see it, please ask, we may have it"), apartments above and (somewhat unusual) next door as well. It's a model whose decline has been devastating to the built environment. Blairmont bought the place this year, from a couple who've owned it for at least a decade.

The city boarded the place up shortly after these photos were taken.

Why is it that so many Blairmont properties don't have any windows?

Broad, arch-topped windows and Italianate cornice brackets make this house vaguely similar to 2514 Coleman, in the same area. The ground level has been boarded up, but where are the windows?



In a surreal twist, the vacant house next door is owned by a resident of New York City's Upper West Side. An inheritance, perhaps?

This one-story Blairmont property is an oddity -- an older cottage, by the looks of it, with a jazz-age facade tacked onto the front. The rounded entryway is the biggest giveaway, along with the thin striping which vaguely recalls the Streamline style.
